Stick electrode amperage by rod and diameter

Hobart data sheets put a 1/8 in. E7018 rod at 90 to 150 amps (130 optimum) and a 1/8 in. E6011 at 80 to 125 amps (100 optimum). A 3/32 in. E6013 runs 40 to 80 amps. Hobart says to cut amperage about 15 percent for vertical and overhead welds.

Every row is from a Hobart Brothers electrode data sheet, linked in the Source column. Hobart says to reduce amperage about 15% when welding out of position (vertical and overhead). If your rod package prints a different range, use the package.
