Welder Duty Cycle & Amperage Chart

Process, input voltage, output amperage range, and rated duty cycle at the amps the sheet states. Each figure is copied from the linked manufacturer sheet. Accessed October 6, 2026.

Use the table to see what a machine’s plate actually rates, then use the thickness calculator for a setting and the duty cycle calculator to apply that plate at the amps you will weld. A second rated line on the same specification row stays in the same cell. Where a sheet prints one current range for an input voltage, that range is repeated on each process row for that voltage. Spacing follows the sheet.

Enter 125 mils on the MIG tab. The printed window starts at 100 A. On the duty tab, enter rated amps 90, rated duty 20, and actual amps 100. The duty tab prints 16 percent: 1.6 minutes on and 8.4 minutes off. That is 20 × (90 ÷ 100) squared, which is 16.2, rounded to 16. The Handler 140 sheet rates 90 A at 18.5 VDC, 20% duty cycle. The duty tab does not take the 18.5 V figure.

Four Handler 140 nameplate fields: wire feed, 115 volts, 25 to 140 amps, and 90 amps at 20 percent
Handler 140 spec sheet, September 2022: 115 V wire-feed welder, welding amp range 25–140 A, rated output 90 A at 18.5 VDC, 20% duty cycle. The diagram shortens the rated line to 90 A at 20%. Handler 140 spec sheet.

How a row was chosen

A row is one published process at one published input voltage. The Power MIG 210 MP brochure also names flux-cored, DC stick, and DC TIG. Its product-specifications table rates MIG only, so those other processes are not rows. The Square Wave TIG 200 sheet’s 120 V TIG line is marked with a note that 120 V AC TIG is 110A/25%. That note is in the cell.

Frequently asked questions

What does the duty tab print for the Handler 140 nameplate at 100 amps?

Enter 125 mils on the MIG tab. The printed window starts at 100 A. On the duty tab, enter rated amps 90, rated duty 20, and actual amps 100. The duty tab prints 16 percent: 1.6 minutes on and 8.4 minutes off. That is 20 × (90 ÷ 100) squared, which is 16.2, rounded to 16. The Handler 140 sheet rates 90 A at 18.5 VDC, 20% duty cycle. The duty tab does not take the 18.5 V figure.

What if a sheet names a process and does not rate it?

That process is not a row. This table does not estimate a duty cycle, and it does not fill a blank with a guess.
